Who’s getting ready for Halloween? It’s tomorrow! Seriously, how did that happen? Today there’s a lot to do. Among my things to do today, I’m taking Connie for a Halloween event at the pet shop we go to and I may or may not have to make a quick run to the grocery store for some more candy. And I’m taking the Fifth on why I would have to do that. đ I’m guessing your schedule is just as hectic as mine today. So, if you’re looking for a quick, Halloween mystery read, then check out WHAT NOT TO WEAR TO A GRAVE YARD. The novella, which can be read as a stand alone in the Resale Boutique Mystery series, can be read in under two hours.
After trading her Manhattan digs for her upstate hometown, fashionista Kelly Quinn has big plans for her grandmotherâs consignment shop. But this All Hallowâs Eve someone is already dressed to kill . . .
A socialiteâs missing dog has made front page news in Lucky Coveâcomplete with a hefty reward. But between renovating the consignment shop, planning her costume for a 1970s themed Halloween party, and scouting a location for a fashion shoot, Kelly doesnât have time to search. Yet a visit to the local colonial-era cemeteryâideal for the moody atmosphere sheâs afterâsoon turns up the precious pooch. Kellyâs looking forward to collecting the checkâuntil she makes a gruesome discovery in an abandoned farmhouse: The dogâs owner, stabbed through the heart. Â Kelly canât help wondering why Constance Lane was traipsing around the farmhouse in stilettos. But as Kelly gets decked out in a vintage disco caftan, that isnât the only fashion misstatement spooking her. Hidden in the dead womanâs past is a secret that could be the motive for the murder. And as the Halloween party gets started, even a menacing clown and a threatening bearded lady canât keep Kelly from trick or treating for the truthâeven if it means her last dance . . .
Happy Friday! Can you believe it’s the end of October already? What happened? In just two days it’s going to be Halloween! I swear, it was just yesterday that I was celebrating the release of THE CORPSE IN THE GAZEBO, embracing everything pumpkin and getting all my cozy fleece throws ready for night time snuggling with Connie. Speaking of Connie, I took her yesterday for her a few vaccines and the drive along the windy back road to the town where her vet office is located was so fallish. It wasn’t a bright day, so the colors of the leaves were muted. Many homes had pumpkins and mums while a few had Halloween decorations set out. I love this time of the year. Now with November on the horizon, I can burrow deeper into autumn and that cozy fleece throw.
My faves this week include a podcast, a Instagram account that always makes me smile, the workout of the week, a favorite YouTube channel and my current read. Ready? Letâs get started.
Podcast: Food Blogger Pro. This is a new podcast to me and I listened to their Salem Witch Trials episode. This is one of my favorite podcasts. I enjoy listening to food bloggers share about their journey in blogging and I’m always on the hunt for some new tips. This week I listened to the Hosting Events episode.
Instagram: Poppy_Stitches. I love when when of her captions pops into my feed. I really miss stitching. Maybe I’ll be able to make some time for my cross stitch project later in the year. Fingers-crossed.
Workout: Get Healthy U’s Cardio and Core. Thirty minutes and boom! I got a cardio and core workout. I’m loving these short workouts.
You Tube: Plan with Laken. In this video, Laken shares her first impressions of the HB90 goal setting system. I love checking out all things goal setting, time management and planning, so I was eager to hear what Laken had to say about HB90. Her initial impressions echoed mine. I really love the goal setting portion of HB90 but I don’t think I would use the monthly/weekly/daily portions of the system. So I’m still on the fence of whether to purchase it.
My current read: Finlay Donovan Is Killing It by Elle Cosimano. I got some good news last week so I celebrated by treating myself to some new books. This was one of them. I’m a few chapters in and I’m enjoying the hot mess Finlay Donovan is and the hot water she ends up in.

Kelly froze and stared at the ghastly sight. Blood stained the womanâs white silk blouse, and her eyes were wide open with a look of horror plastered in them.
Please, please, donât be dead.
âThis is the first I had read in this series but it so good, I’m going to go look for the first two books! Halloween will never look the same after Debra Sennefelder gets through with it!â Barnes & Noble review

Happy Friday! We got through another week. I’ve been working on a manuscript, the first draft of what will become the next Resale Boutique mystery. Every night I rewarded myself with a little reading time. I also made sure to wrap up my work before dinner time and not go back into my office. I’m trying to keep a balance between work and life. And in that balance there needs to be reading time.
My current read has been waiting in my Kindle app for me to start reading. I remember when this book was all over Bookstagram and the premise intrigued me but I’m not really in YA. So I resisted buying the book. I’m not sure when I made the purchase, but I got it on sale, figuring I’d read it some day. Well, a week ago I was ready to select a new book to read and I decided to try A GOOD GIRL’S GUIDE TO MURDER by Holly Jackson. I’m so glad I did! I’m close to half way into the story and I love Pip.
Fairview feels like a town very close by to me. I love the digging into a missing person case and the layers of secrets Pip is uncovering.
Everyone in Fairview knows the story.
Pretty and popular high school senior Andie Bell was murdered by her boyfriend, Sal Singh, who then killed himself. It was all anyone could talk about. And five years later, Pip sees how the tragedy still haunts her town.
But she can’t shake the feeling that there was more to what happened that day. She knew Sal when she was a child, and he was always so kind to her. How could he possibly have been a killer?
Now a senior herself, Pip decides to reexamine the closed case for her final project, at first just to cast doubt on the original investigation. But soon she discovers a trail of dark secrets that might actually prove Sal innocent . . . and the line between past and present begins to blur. Someone in Fairview doesn’t want Pip digging around for answers, and now her own life might be in danger.
Inquiring minds want to know : What are you reading?
Her head just missed the corner of a headstone that had a jack oâlatern propped on top with the evilest looking grin. What black-hearted person had carved that pumpkin?
âThrow in a dash of Halloween fun and a handful of beautiful autumn descriptions and youâve got a wonderful cozy by Debra Sennefelder that will keep you turning the pages!â Barnes & Noble review
