What to Read This Summer: Books Perfect for Vacation and Staycations

Who’s ready for packing up beach bags and heading out for some relaxing time by the pool or on the beach? Let’s see those hands! Now, if I’m filling a beach bag, you can bet it’s stocked with sunscreen (and more sunscreen), a water bottle, a toiletry bag, sunglasses and, of course, a book. Because lounging outside and reading a good book simply go hand in hand. Summer and reading were made for each other.

And you don’t have to be heading to the pool or stretching out on a sandy beach to enjoy a great summer read. Maybe your favorite spot is a front porch swing, a cozy backyard patio, or a shady corner of the garden. That’s usually where you’ll find me during the summer—with a cold drink nearby and a book in hand.

If you’re looking for some books to add to your summer reading stack, I’ve gathered a few titles that are perfect companions for those long, sunny days. They are a mix of thrillers, women’s fiction and cozy mysteries.

LIE IN THE BAY by Holly Danvers

A DIFFERENT KIND OF POISON by Liz Alterman

THE SUMMER THAT CHANGED US by Jami Albright

THE SEASIDE SISTERS by Pamela Kelley

MURDER AT THE CAMPFIRE COOKOUT by Darci Hannah

A CULTIVATED CORPSE by Debra Sennefelder

Whether you’re planning a beach getaway, spending afternoons poolside, or simply savoring quiet moments on the porch with a cold drink in hand, I hope you’ve found a few books to add to your summer reading stack. There’s nothing quite like getting lost in a good story while soaking up the sunshine. Happy reading, and may your summer be filled with plenty of page-turning adventures!

Now I want to know: What book is going into your beach bag this summer?
